A reddit user named EXPOED has presented concepts for maps with updated lighting in Counter-Strike 2. He posted screenshots on the forum.
Many reddit users were dissatisfied with the revamped lighting. They noted that the concepts were depressing, too dark, with high contrast, and not suitable for a shooter that needs bright areas for better visibility of enemies. Other redditors did not like that the updated lighting reminded them of the lighting in CS:GO.
Beta testing for Counter-Strike 2 began on March 22. CS2 is a free update for CS:GO, which will receive improved graphics, a reworked tickrate system, more realistic smoke behavior from grenades, and more. The release is planned for summer 2023.

April 23, 2023I’m not sure I like the direction of the updated lighting. It looks a bit too gloomy for my taste, and I worry it will make it harder to spot enemies. I hope they take user feedback into account and adjust it accordingly.

April 23, 2023I’m glad to see that they’re making improvements to the tickrate system. That’s been a long-standing issue in CS:GO and it’s great to see them addressing it. Looking forward to the update.
